- _4 value "Insulin receptor tyrosine kinase activity was significantly decreased in skeletal muscle from obese insulin resistant patients compared with lean insulin sensitive patients. Tyrosine kinase activity of insulin receptor was increased by 48% in obese insulin resistant skeletal muscle and was not significantly changed in lean subjects by alkaline phosphatase treatment. Moreover increased membrane associated PKC activity and PKC-beta translocation to membrane was induced by insulin treatment in muscle fibers of obese subjects. These results suggested that increased serine/threonine phosphorylation of insulin receptor mediated by PKC isoforms (beta, theta, delta) is responsible for reduced insulin receptor tyrosine kinase activity in obese subjects." provenance.
